Pro: Took good ole boys racing in circles in the Southeast and made NASCAR into a sports phenomenon by going national. NASCAR runs from coast to coast and has become the ultimate sports marketing machine with a huge television contract. Race for the Nextel Cup was a genius move to create year-end excitement.
Con: NASCAR is 43 billboards going 200 mph. Beer-swilling infield purists resent the chardonnay set that has arrived via the circuit's new condo/luxury-box tracks. TV ratings dropped because big racing teams now dominate.
