Aftermath
Landry, a young photographer, would experience several successes while working for LIFE during the period; he shot five of its covers in his first year with the magazine. He was also assigned to cover the storming of the beaches at Normandy on D-Day; unfortunately, his film was lost. This frame shows what remained of the U.S.S. Shaw after the Pearl Harbor attack.
