Salvage
This image by Landry shows a group of salvage men rowing to the U.S.S. Arizona after fires on board had died down. While these pictures represent a large portion of the scarce professional and evocative photography taken at the time of the tragedy at Pearl Harbor, they were not the first of Landry's images to be published. His less timely images of naval officers were the first to hit the pages of LIFE magazine, in its Jan. 5, 1942, issue. In this image, Landry captures detail of the warped wreckage of the U.S.S. Arizona.
