Church of the Nativity
A nun prays at the very site of Jesus Christ's supposed birthplace in the West Bank town of Bethlehem. Pilgrims flock to the church every Christmas. During the intifada in 2002, Israeli forces laid siege to it after Palestinian militants took sanctuary there.
