Murderer's Row
While often remembered for his blockbuster 1961 season, Maris had been a solid member of the Yankees lineup in the years before he broke the home run record. Pictured here with Maris in 1960 are Yankees catcher Yogi Berra, outfielder Mickey Mantle #7 and first baseman Bill Skowron #14. Collectively, the press referred to them as "Murderer's Row," borrowing the term from the original 1927 lineup of the same name that included Babe Ruth himself. Combined, Maris and the rest of the crew hit 165 home runs during the 1969 season. Maris also won a Gold Glove and a Most Valuable Player award.
