Interstate 405, July 13, 2011
A principal freeway link between the Los Angeles basin and the San Fernando Valley, I-405 typically handles 500,000 vehicles a day. Because the volume of cars and trucks continues to increase, the city has begun a project to widen the highway. The construction will require the destruction of one part of a bridge over the highway; in order to carry out this demolition, the city will close 10 miles of the freeway for 53 hours over the weekend of July 1617.
