Kokoshnik Tiara (Britain)
Queen Alexandra may have been royalty, but she drew inspiration from the peasants of Russia. In 1888 she requested that jewelers make her a tiara inspired by the kokoshnik — a headdress worn by peasant girls in the taiga. The similarities between her tiara and their headdresses end with size and shape: Alexandra's tiara boasts 488 diamonds, the largest of which are 3.25 carats (0.65 g).
