A patch of land along the coast of Indonesia's Mentawai Islands lies barren after a tsunami struck on Oct. 28. Triggered by an earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, the tsunami killed more than 400 people and left hundreds more missing. Indonesia is in the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an area known for its high seismic activity that causes natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanoes.
