A Kennedy Space Center orbiter technician inspects a portion of the 50-ft.-long (15 m) Orbital Boom Sensor System, a robotic arm destined to be attached to the space shuttle's Remote Manipulator System, commonly called the Canadarm. The device's cameras and lasers are designed to inspect in detail the shuttle's exterior thermal protection tiles.
