Fourteen-year-old Paloma Lozoya walks to the convenience store in her neighborhood in Ciudad Juárez, a city on Mexico's northern border known for its soaring rate of homicide and warring drug cartels. The city's rampant violence has reached right into Paloma's mother's neighborhood: in June, the house on the right in this photo was the scene of a shootout between rival drug gangs that left two young men dead.
