Born to Privilege
Yukio Hatoyama hails from a long line of influential politicians, sometimes dubbed "Japan's Kennedys" by the local media. After graduating from the University of Tokyo in 1969, Hatoyama headed to the U.S. to attend a Ph.D. engineering program at Stanford University, where he met Miyuki, a former actress in Japan who worked at a local Japanese restaurant. The couple were married a year before Hatoyama graduated in 1976, when the newlyweds returned to Japan. Hatoyama later worked as an assistant professor at Shenshyu University's Department of Business Administration for two years.
