Hissing at Hoover
On April 14, 1931, the crowd at the Washington Senators' season opener grumbled as President Herbert Hoover pitched the ball toward the diamond. Fans reportedly shouted "We want beer" at the Prohibition-era President. Hoover experienced a similar response later that year at the World Series, where Babe Ruth's opposition to the President sparked boos from attendees.
