The Georgian's sled remained on the track in the aftermath of his accident, which occurred just hours before the opening ceremonies of the Winter Games. In an eerily prescient story that was posted earlier the same day, the Daily Telegraph quoted Andy Schmid, director of the British skeleton squad, on Whistler, saying, "Please, let there be no accidents there, because that could kill the sport."
