On the 100th anniversary of women's inclusion in competing in the Olympic Games, Australia chose Aboriginal sprinter Cathy Freeman to light the flame. Freeman went on to win the gold in the 400-m race, becoming the second Australian Aboriginal Olympic champion in history.
