Double Agents: A Photo Dossier

Eddie Chapman

Eddie Chapman
A safecracker and blackmailer, Chapman was doing a stretch in prison when the Germans invaded the Channel Islands during World War II. The Nazis recruited Chapman to spy on his homeland and parachuted him back into England, where he promptly turned himself in to the authorities. After a debriefing, the MI5 enlisted Chapman, code-named Zigzag, and he staged a faux attack on the de Havilland aircraft plant to fulfill his German mission. After returning to Germany, he was awarded the Iron Cross for service to the Reich as well as a yacht and 110,000 marks. He went on to supply the Germans with misinformation while on assignments in Oslo and London, where he deliberately failed in his mission to guide V-1 rockets into the heart of the city
