Battlestar Galactica, 1978 - 1980
In a galaxy far, far, away, humans are at war with the Cylons, a race of robots. The crew of the Galactica, a military ship, leads the survivors of a massive Cylon attack into space, defending against further Cylon offensives and searching for a fabled refuge, known as Earth. Initially broadcast on ABC in 1978, the original series, which starred (left to right, above) Richard Hatch, Lorne Greene and Dirk Benedict, kept the conflict straightforward. In 2004, the series was revived for television on the Sci-Fi Channel, and its themes took on greater weight, turning the battle against the Cylons into an allegory for the war on terror.
