Though they may not have endured as many murders as Colorado Springs, other towns near military bases across the U.S. are reporting an increased incidence of crime, domestic violence and substance abuse. A recent Rand Corporation report concluded that one of every five military service members — the equivalent of around 300,000 men and women — are coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and major depression.
