Fred
"My daughter and I were walking our dog, Wags, in the park when we first saw Fred. He was painfully thin and ragged, with large patches of exposed skin ... I had read about the Humane Society's humane education program. Fred passed a temperament test with flying colors, and for the past six years we have been visiting students at Ross School. When we're a block or two from the school, Fred sits up and starts wagging his tail. He walks around the classroom, visits with everyone, and gets loved. We talk about caring for animals, and the kids write stories about Fred and draw pictures of him ... Fred knows exactly where his classroom is. Sometimes he refuses to leave. He just lies on the rug and looks at me. He loves being with the kids." — Diane Shust, attorney
