The Longest Day, 1962
The long day in question is June 6, 1944 — the Allied invasion of Normandy. The film ambitiously retells the events of D-Day from the perspective of the Germans, U.S., British and French. With a cast of thousands including John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Sean Connery, Richard Burton, Peter Lawford and Rod Steiger, the film zips by in a mere three hours — not quite as long a day as it seemed.
