Mining for Gold
For well over a century, miners have been pulling gold out of the East Fork of the San Gabriel River in Southern California's Angeles National Forest. By one estimate the area has yielded $13 million dollars of the mineral. The continued presence of dust in the water and nuggets in the hills has attracted men like Rick Skow, a laid-off heavy machine operator, and his partner Ty Reinell. In this photo, the two men stand astride their dredging site.
