The Firebird
After its success with the GTO, Pontiac worked hard to develop its reputation as a sports-car brand. Pontiac unveiled the Firebird in 1967 —soon, Pontiac was also offering a Trans Am package including the blue stripe (above). Trans Am became a trademark Pontiac brand, with a famous appearance (some would say a starring role) in the 1977 Burt Reynolds film "Smokey and the Bandit."
