Yves Saint Laurent's Art Auction

Lars Klove / New York Times / Redux

Disputed Object
The auction includes two Qing dynasty bronze animal heads, a rabbit, pictured in the catalogue, above, and a rat, which are believed to have been part of a set of 12 animals from the Chinese zodiac created for the Summer Palace near Beijing. The Chinese government is pressuring Christie's to withdraw the lots from the auction, alleging that they were looted from the palace 150 years ago.
