Spanish Eyes
For over thirty years golf fans were wowed by the skill and the charm of the man born in Pedreña, Cantabria, Spain. Ballesteros turned professional in March 1974 at the age of 16 and came 20th in his first tournament. He learned the game while playing on the beaches near his home, mainly using a 3-iron given to him by one of his older brothers. And golf fans the world over have mourned his death, at the age of 54, from a protracted battle with cancer. He had health problems since being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2008 after losing consciousness at Madrid Airport.
