From New York to Paris
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg visits Paris to learn about the city's new bicycle-share service, Velib, which provides nearly 20,000 bikes for rent to ease traffic congestion. In February, the League of American Bicyclists awarded Bloomberg with the Bicycle Friendly Community Award for his efforts to increase bike lanes and bike parking. Former New York Mayor Ed Koch is credited with reviving the city's interest in bikes after a 1979 trip to China, where bicycles are a common (and cheap) form of transportation.
