As their success grew, Christian groups in the U.S. denounced the group for occult references in their lyrics — which no doubt helped propel several albums to gold certification. The band developed a reputation for destruction and hedonism, trashing hotel rooms and cars for fun. But when the '78 album Never Say Die didn't do well and Ozzy's marriage fell apart, things took a turn for the worse. His already impressive drug habit escalated and he was eventually booted out of the band.
