Ted Turner, a Life in Business

Peter Turnley / Corbis

Ambassador
In reaction to the US' decision in 1980 to boycott the Summer Olympics in Moscow, Turner created the Goodwill Games, which were held in six years later in the Soviet capital (where he poses above), with 3,000 athletes from 79 countries competing. The experiment in sports diplomacy ended in 2001, when the final Goodwill Games were held in Brisbane, Australia.
