During the 2000 presidential election, Huffington helped organize counterpoint gatherings to the conventions organized by the two major political parties. At the shadow convention held in Camden, New Jersey, convened across the river from the RNC in Philadelphia, Huffington worked to quiet hecklers interrupting the keynote address of Senator John McCain.
