HAVING JUMPED OUT to the early lead in Week 8 with a 10-3 start, L.I. Slim is massaging his big bag of oats. He and Kansas City have gone their separate ways on 7 of the weekend's games--so consider this the bullet round, where the scores could really change.

L.I. Slim Faves:

Betting on Frisco against the double-digit cushion is a dicey game, I admit. But I don't know when to quit (which is why this isn't for real money). So take the Niners, giving two TDs, over the Saints. And you write me if you want to know when the Steelers will lose again--but it won't be this week at Tres Riveras. Give the Jags 3, with a kiss. And L.I. Slim is also a crazy romantic who hopes against hope that either the Colts or the Bears notch one this Sunday. He's betting that with 15+ between them, both will at least muster a cover.

The Rest:

GIANTS (-5.5) over Bengals
EAGLES (Pick) over Cowboys
Broncos (-7) over BILLS
49ers (-14) over SAINTS
Chiefs (-5.5) over RAMS
Ravens (+6) over REDSKINS
BUCS (-3) over Vikings
Bears (+9.5) over DOLPHINS
STEELERS (-3) over Jaguars
Raiders (+2.5) over SEAHAWKS
Colts (+6) over CHARGERS
Oilers (+1.5) over CARDS
PANTHERS (-8.5) over Falcons
Packers (+2) over PATS

DOWN THREE GAMES after Week 8, KC can only fall back on the comfort of knowing that you can't mount a comeback unless you first fall behind. And nobody wants to see someone in the lead wire to wire. Secure in that knowledge, this week's picks:

The Chiefs meet St. Louis in a rematch of their last meeting in 1994, which the Rams inexplicably won, 16-0. No such luck this time around -- the Lambs are in gentle disarray, and retirement has got to be looking pretty good to Dick Vermeil. For more fun, head to the Valley of the Sun, where we all saw Jake Plummer humble Nebraska last year. And the Memphis Oilers are no Cornhuskers. The Snake's first start, in front of the home crowd, against an average team -- it all smells like victory for Arizona giving a point and a half to the boys in blue. And by all means take eight points and Atlanta against Carolina. The Panthers win but do not cover against a surging Falcons team.
