Meaningless statistic of the week: The last time Atlanta lost the opening game of a National League Championship Series to Philadelphia in 1993 they also lost the series. Normally, this wouldn't worry Braves fans. But throw in the fact that they are playing a Florida Marlins team that gave them fits during the regular season, and there was a lot more than Georgia on the minds of the 49,000-plus at Turner Field last night. The Braves kicked the ball around like a little league team as Atlanta lost 5-3 to the Marlins even though Braves starter Greg Maddux didn't give up an earned run.

Tonight, the American League series begins with those battling Alomars, Sandy and Roberto, facing off against each other as Cleveland meets Baltimore.
