JERUSALEM: The militant Islamic group Hamas has claimed responsibility for today's triple suicide bombing in Jerusalem. The bombs ripped through a crowded downtown pedestrian walkway, killing at least 8 people and injuring over 165.

Hamas issued an ultimatum stating that if Israel does not meet the groups demands by September 14, more attacks will take place. Chief among those demands is the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. "We warn the enemy Zionist government against ignoring our warnings," says the statement. "They will pay the price in pain, regret and blood."

Meanwhile, the war of words over the attack has begun. Israel blames Yasser Arafat, claiming his recent meeting with militant leaders was a green light for terror. Others counter that Netanyahu should have seen this coming. "The Israelis have been warned during the last week by the Palestinians, the Americans and their own intelligence services that attacks were going to take place," says TIME West Bank correspondent Jamil Hamad.
