Science students watch out: the Federal Government is coming for your degree. The National Science Foundation, which has a lot of clout and a $3billion budget, will meet Thursday in Washington D.C. to discuss possible changes to PhDs and other courses in science and engineering. The problem, as the NSF see it, is that there are too many students and not enough academic slots for them to fill. One solution being floated is to have a more generic "doctor of science" degree that could be more easily adapted to the needs of industry. TIME Daily's soultion: take a leaf out of the agriculture industry's book, and pay students a subsidy not to study science.
