ATLANTA: Our daily E. coli report... Two days ago, when we reported that a meat-producer recalled burgers infected with the potentially deadly bacteria, we suggested sticking to salad. Wrong! The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is trying to figure out how E. coli got into alfalfa sprouts eaten in Michigan and Virginia, causing illness in at least 70 people. The leading theory is that the sprouts had been contaminated by animal waste. The CDC has yet to get to identify the source of the sprouts because it hasn't gotten to the root of the problem. Get it?
