The Dow Jones industrial average rose 57.44 to 5,515.97 Wednesday. Trading was heavier, totaling 416.76 million shares, up from yesterday's 395.02 million shares. The NYSE composite index rose 3.39 to 345.66, and the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index rose 7.45 to 648.10. The Nasdaq composite indes rose 12.32 to 1,695.56, and the AMEX market value index rose 6.58 to 565.10. In London, gold closed $397.25 off $ 5.00
