Technology and transportation stocks pushed the New York Stock Exchange to its ninth record high in the last twelve days of trading. The Dow jumped 52.02 points to close at 5,459.61 and trading was a robust 465.92 million shares. The NYSE composite index was up 2.42 to 344.68, the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index climbed 4.90 to 646.33, and the AMEX value index posted a gain of 2.69 to close at 559.96. The Nasdaq composite index gained 5.74 to finish at 1,089.08, also off the strength of tech stocks. Gold closed off $2.50 in London to settle at 412.35.
