The Dow Jones industrial average ended a string of record closes Friday, losing 31.07 points to finish the day at 5,373.99. The New York Stock Exchange composite index fell 1.14 to 340.09. On the Big Board, decliners led advancers 1,271 to 1,077 with 750 unchanged. Volume was moderate, with 418.49 shares traded. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index gained 2.97 points to 1,072.43. The Standard & Poor's 500 stocks lost 2.62 to close at 635.84. The American Stock Exchange market value index lost 0.14 to 555.54. In London, gold closed at $414.65, up $4.30.
