Confirming earlier reports, Assistant Secretary of State Richard Holbrooke has announced his intention to resign his post early next year. Says TIME's Mark Thompson: "He's leaving on a high note, and frankly, he's leaving before we run into any real trouble keeping the peace." In other developments, Tony Blankley, press secretary to Newt Gingrich, is going to be considerably busier at home now that his wife, Linda Davis, an Army reserve captain, has been called to active duty as part of the Bosnia peacekeeping force. In Sarajevo, American military officials report that the Bosnian Serb military is beginning to dismantle its anti-aircraft radar installations, one of the main sources of worry to military planners.
