The Dow Jones industrial average continued its record climb Friday, rising 7.23 to 5,048.84. The New York Stock Exchange composite index edged up slightly 0.69 to 320.40. On the Big Board, advancers led decliners 1,373 to 926, with 797 unchanged. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index gained 7.01 to end the shortened trading day at 1,028.25. The Standard & Poor's 500 stocks rose 1.57 to 599.97. The American Stock Exchange market value index rose 12.94 to 531.27.
