WELFARE VOTE DELAYED

After unexpectedly reaching a key agreement on child care funding, the Senate has postponed a final vote on welfare reform until next week. With the compromise on the child care issued reached, Karen Tumulty notes, the bill should pass easily. Late Thursday night, Majority Leader Bob Dole reached a compromise with Minority Leader Tom Daschle under which child care funding will rise by $3 billion over five years to $8 billion.
