As jurors scribbled furiously, two women testified that Mark Fuhrman used the racial epithets he denied having used in the past ten years. “But the jury is going to have to make the leap that though Fuhrman is a bad guy and a racist, that he is also capable of planting evidence in this particular case,” reports James Willwerth from the trial. “The defense is trying to inflame the jury, and it would take a mindreader to tell if they are succeeding.” One of the witnesses, Kathleen Bell, testified that after she met Fuhrman about 10 years ago, he had said, “If I had my way, all the niggers would be gathered together and burned.”
