"Regardless of the justification, this marks the end of impartiality," a senior NATO official told Bonn bureau chief Bruce Van Voorst today. Buoyed by near-unanimous European opposition to the Serb shelling of the Sarajevo marketplace, Van Voorst says, the United Nations has backed a harsh military offensive for the first time in its history. "The standard approach has always been that any intervention would be limited and impartial. These attacks are clearly neither -- the U.N. is targeting the Bosnian Serbs."
