Stocks staged a partial comeback today as Wall Street saw another unsettled day for technology issues. The Dow Jones industrial average surged in late trading 14.44 to close at 4,608.44. The Nasdaq composite slid 4.51 to 1,003.64. The Standard and Poor's 500 stocks rose .95 to end the day at 560.00. On the New York Stock exchange, decliners led advancers 1211 to 1030 .And in London, gold closed up .40 to end the day at $383.35.
