The business practices of Hillary Clinton's former law firm dominated theHouse Whitewater hearings.Under harsh questioning from Republicans, former Justice Department official (and Clinton law partner) Webster Hubbell tried to explain his role in the Rose Law Firm's clean-up of Madison Guaranty.TIME's Suneel Ratanreports: "The Republicans are trying to show with Hubbell that Rose was not fully forthcoming to the government about its involvement with Madison." Mrs. Clinton did legal work on Madison in 1985, and Rose reported that she later had a substantial role in the RTC clean-up. A lawyer with the Resolution Trust Corp. testified that the government "might well have decided not to hire Rose" if the agency had known of Mrs. Clinton's prior work for Madison.
