In a victory forschool-prayer advocates, the Court struck down a ban on student-led graduation prayers. Justices ordered the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to dismiss their ruling against such voluntary prayer. But the decision only applied to the nine western states under the Ninth Circuit Court's jurisdiction and does not set a precedent for any otherschool prayer case. The court essentially put off ruling on the issue until the 1995-1996 term, when several more graduation prayer controversies may be taken up.
