Napster Changes Tune for Campus Networks

Napster, the controversial service that allows users to share MP3 files over the Internet, announced yesterday that it is making changes to the way its program works in order to appease colleges across the country who have banned students from using the software.

Harvard and other schools began blocking Napster earlier this year, claiming that students downloading music from the service were clogging campus Internet connections. Napster is a popular application amongst students, some of whom posted a web site to protest the bans earlier this year. Napster allows users to browse and grab music files from the computers of other Napster-connected users.
