Visa and Mastercard announced they are teaming up to develop technical standards to make credit card purchases over the Internet safe from hackers. The plan, which promises to make risk-free electronic shopping commonplace by early next year, would replace credit card numbers with 200-to-300-digit codes that would be far more difficult to crack.
