Promoted by hypemaster and Miramax Films boss Harvey Weinstein as a crusade to get kids to use condoms, "Kids" is in reality nothing more than a joyless chase movie, saysTIME film critic Richard Corliss. Though the film has been well-received at Cannes as a shocking and radical look at a teen lifestyle full of drugs and unsafe sex, Corliss says it is nothing of the sort. "A truly radical, dangerous movie about teens would show the lure of the wild life, while avoiding the twin tones of sensationalism and sentimentality" -- something "Kids" fails to achieve.
