WHITEHOUSE INTRUDER . . . A SUICIDE ATTEMPT?

Leland Modjeski may have been trying to commit suicide when hejumped the White House fencecarrying an unloaded gun, officials say. Unidentified law enforcement officials say the man swore at Secret Service officers and ignored their warnings to halt. Modjeski wasshot and injured. Law enforcement officials believe he may have been daring the officers to fire. Modjeski has some history of mental illness, having been treated for depression. Modjeski remains in stable condition at George Washington University Hospital.
