Saying someone has "a face only a mother could love" may not be an understatement. A new study in the May issue of the Journal of Developmental Psychology says that cute babies get better treatment from Mom than homely babies. The study says that mothers of cute babies showed more affection toward infants by holding and talking to them, while mothers of unattractive babies spent more time paying attention to other people. Researcher Jean Ritter says her new findings demonstrate that "appearance cues" are so powerful they even shape relationships between mother and child.
