GOP LINES UP TO SUPPORT REED'S CONTRACT

Ralph Reed today presented theChristian Coalition's "Contract With the American Family."Among the chief points in the contract are calls for restrictions on abortion, allowing prayer at public events and eliminating federal funding for the arts. More than a dozen members of Congress stopped by, led by Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who promised floor votes in the House on each of the contract's proposals.GOP presidential hopeful Phil Gramm, who earlier this year had been singled out by Reed as a candidate not in line with thecoalition's thinking on abortion, made also made it a point to attend. The Republican front runner, Senate Majority LeaderBob Dole, hosted a private meeting with Reedand other coalition leaders immediately after the press conference.
