FIVE CHARGED IN SOUTH KOREA EXPLOSION

Five people were arrested in the South Korean city of Taegu on charges of negligence in the Friday explosion of a gas pipeline that killed 100 and hospitialized 125 others. An investigation concluded that in violation of safety rules, construction workers had drilled a hole in a natural gas line. The gas poured into a water main near a construction site and was ignited by a welding spark. In a demonstration at Seoul National University, members of the opposition Democratic Party demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Lee Hong-koo and three other Cabinet ministers and called on President Kim Young-sam to apologize for the explosion.
